Severe storms cause damage in Moore, Poteet

Fortunately, no injuries were reported

Nature did not bother knocking; it barged right in, pummeling the area with sheets of rain and, in some places, much more than a handful of hail.

“The roofing, it sounded real loud. The wind got real bad, too,” said Tammy Frausto.

Frausto watched it all from the convenience store in the Frio County community of Moore, where she works. However, thanks to the storm, she couldn’t work at all. The power was out all morning.

“They want to use a debit card, they want to pump gas, and that is with electricity,” said Frausto.

In the Atascosa County community of Poteet, the power of the wind stirred up trouble along State Highway 16.

“I’m thinking it just picked it up in one and just blew it over there,” said Leticia Lambardia, owner of Pop Da Topz Bar.

Things didn’t just topple over outside the bar. The building was left topless, and the roof landed down the road.

“You can practically trace the path of the winds just by looking at the damage, how it not only took the roof off, but came right through here, snapping trees and power lines,” said Lambardia.

“At least these things, you know, you can replace them, but people’s lives, people getting injured, that’s really difficult,” expressed Lambardia.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

But Lambardia was worried that without a roof, her bar might lose one of its most popular features: its tournament-level pool tables.

The floors and other features were left a bit soggy. Lambardia said it would take some work to get back into the building that has been in her family for decades. For now, though, she says customers can enjoy the drinks on the patio.
