Misty and Mark Rodriguez have had as many as seven foster children come through their home in one year. They said that's because they feel supported by the Children's Shelter programs and staff.

While many people remember some turmoil within the Children's Shelter emergency shelters during the pandemic, the foster care programming was never affected. Those programs are still going strong and need the public's help.

Children in the custody of the state are no longer allowed to be housed at The Children’s Shelter after the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services terminated its contract with the shelter for its General Residential Operation.

The Children's Shelter says it was a financial decision, and it expects to extend the furloughs by 60 days while it works to get the placement hold lifted.

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS A outbreak of COVID-19 at The Childrens Shelter in San Antonio has led to new precautions. Officials with the shelter said 11 children and four staff members have tested positive. Anais Biera-Miracle is the chief public relations officer for the shelter, which is located off Woodlawn. The outbreak began on July 15 when two children began to experience a fever.
